St. Helens Borough Council is looking for a dynamic and innovative Head of Legal and Democratic Services to join us at an exciting time for the Council.

Reporting to the Director of Legal & Governance, you will work at Head of Service level, responsible for managing Legal and Democratic services, Scrutiny, Electoral and Registration services.

You will also act as Deputy Monitoring Officer, providing an opportunity to work at a strategic level with the new leadership team, senior managers and elected members, supporting and enabling key projects.

At a time when the Council is undergoing an exciting modernisation and improvement programme, you will lead the development of the services to promote strong, collaborative relationships with the departments that they support, to foster a ‘business partnering’ model.

You will have good political awareness, having worked in a politically sensitive environment. You will also have the skills and experience to proactively facilitate good governance and decision making within the Council and provide pragmatic solutions to issues.
