Liverpool has become the most exciting and rapidly evolving place to live and work in the North-West. This is reflected in the Council’s City Solicitor’s Office, which deals with a significant quantity of challenging and stimulating legal work.

The Council seeks an experienced lawyer with a background in commercial contracts, a can-do attitude and a desire to improve public services, to join its Contracts & Commercial team. The post holder will be required to deal with a significant and varied caseload including contracts for the provision of services or supplies, event and art agreements, as well as loan and grant agreements and associated legal documentation. Applicants should be familiar with the impact of public procurement law on public authorities, as well as the new subsidy control regime under the EU-UK TCA. Knowledge and experience of local government law and governance would be advantageous, but is not essential.

This is an opportunity to work in an exciting and forward thinking local authority as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary legal department during the implementation of change and improvement plans following the recent Best Value report on the Council. The work will be fast paced and highly varied in nature. These posts present an attractive and challenging opportunity for highly motivated individuals to bring their enthusiasm to the team and to build on their experience. We offer a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme, flexible working arrangements and a work environment which gives you the opportunity to use and develop your skills within a forward-thinking service.

A Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEx, you will have excellent organisational, drafting, legal research and communication skills, be competent in using standard Microsoft Office applications, and be able to prioritise your work in a dynamic environment. You need to be flexible and innovative in your approach, helping us to support the Council’s challenging aims and priorities for the City and its residents and the delivery of the City Plan. Experience of working in local government is desirable but not essential.
