About the Role

As Head of Governance you will be senior governance lead within the organisation and support Elected Members, Leadership Team and the Assistant Director (Legal, Governance & Workforce) and Monitoring Officer by providing expert advice on a wide range of governance issues across a range of services and new ventures.

Within the Resources Directorate, the responsibilities of the Assistant Director (Legal, Governance & Workforce) have recently been increased and the Head of Governance will join the Directorate as the establishment changes are embedding. There is therefore an opportunity to work with the senior team to shape these changes. You will also play an integral role as a member of the Legal, Governance & Workforce Senior Management Team.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to hold an ICSA qualification or have a degree in a relevant subject area or have a track record at senior management level of leading a service and delivering successful outcomes within a relevant field.

As Head of Service you will have lead responsibility on all aspects of governance and committee support, elections and members services and should be able to demonstrate expertise in leading or delivering on elections/electoral registration processes.

You will have experience of managing a service either working within or alongside public sector organisations and formulating, leading and implementing change.

You will have the resilience and the ability to work at the political interface and of engaging effectively with high profile stakeholders, partners and authorities across the public, private, community and voluntary sectors.

You should have the ability to deputise effectively for the Assistant Director (Legal, Governance & Workforce) both internally and externally.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with sound judgement and skills in this area to make a significant contribution to emerging new ways of working to safeguard and protect the Council, through its governance arrangements and enable it to move into a new era of working and decision-making.

 Appointment to this post is subject to a enhanced DBS including a barred list check against the adult workforce

Graduated Mandatory Unpaid Leave is applicable for this post, there will be a pay deduction from salary each month equating to 5 days per year.  This will be pro rata for part time/part year employees.
