About You and The Role
We are looking for 2 highly motivated lawyers to join our Corporate Legal Team to provide high quality advice and representation to the Council, Officers, and Elected Members, therefore a current practising certificate is required.
The team is supportive and friendly and will encourage your personal and professional development by regular supervisions, support, and training. However, you should be able to demonstrate your ability to add value to an established team.
The post holders will carry an Interesting and varied caseload of matters relating to corporate law.
One lawyer will undertake commercial work such as procurement, projects and contracts.
The second lawyer will undertake property work to include regeneration, title investigations leases etc.
Whilst previous local authority experience would be an advantage, we are also open to candidates who have private practice experience or experience in other in-house roles where they have transferable skills and would be a good fit.
The role is career graded allowing appointment according to level of experience and ability and those with experience and those who are newly qualified are encouraged to apply with subsequent career progression. Those appointed to Grade K would be Senior Lawyers without having to manage but involved in mentoring and supporting the development of colleagues as well as deputising where appropriate for the Principal Lawyer offering opportunities for continued personal development.

The Team is supported by our senior legal assistant, legal assistant and administrative staff who assist us with file preparation, drafting, requesting evidence and where necessary shadowing counsel. The team meet regularly for diary and Team meetings to ensure that staff feel supported and know what is happening in the service and Council. Staff development is important so you will have a development plan that is reviewed regularly with your manager. You will have access to plc, shadowing, free training courses, peer support and the Northwest Legal Consortium.
