Bury Legal Services is part of that vision and plays a vital role in providing legal advice and representation to departments across the Council involved in implementation of that vision. This includes those involved in ensuring contracts are performed, rents are paid, disputes relating to such matters are resolved and in recouping monies owed to the Council arising from such things as from Council Tax and Business Rates. Legal Services ensures that claims by or against the Council are responded too effectively and efficiently proving sound and accurate advice and representation.

Bury Council’s Legal Services Team is looking to recruit a Dispute Resolution Lawyer to undertake a variety of work focused on litigation, with an emphasis on debt recovery and insolvency in the civil courts. This will include rent, business rates, commercial property litigation and other general litigation on behalf of the Council and other related Council service providers, including undertaking advocacy at hearings.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of all aspects of litigation and be fully conversant with the Civil Procedure Rules, including debt recovery and insolvency and have undertaken advocacy. Previous experience of commercial litigation would be an advantage.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to advise on relevant areas of law are required as you will be responsible for your own caseload, and providing advice and guidance to clients and lawyers within the team. Good organisational and time management skills, as well as an ability to work within a politically sensitive environment are also required.

You will have the ability to work flexibly and have the benefit of an effective remote working-practice model, as well as having the option to be more office based.
