About the Role

Liverpool City Council is looking to recruit a Lawyer specialising in Employment Law.

The successful candidate will require an excellent working knowledge in key legislation, including the Employment Rights Act 1996 and the Equality Act 2010. The role will involve holding an individual caseload of contentious and non-contentious matters, including Employment Tribunal cases with advocacy as required, alongside providing general employment law advice to key stakeholders and human resource colleagues. Such work shall include, but not be limited to, advising on a range of employment law matters covering:

discrimination and equality,
unfair dismissal,
restructures and redundancies,
TUPE; and
disciplinary and grievance processes.

The post-holder will be expected to provide direct support to officers of the Council, leading the way on ensuring the Council meets its legal obligations and ensuring it is able to deliver a high-quality service with an effective and well managed workforce, as such you should be able to develop and maintain good relationships with clients and key stakeholders, including delivering internal training.

The post will be located within a wider team of lawyers undertaking education and litigation work and the post-holder will be expected to cross skill across disciplines. Experience in these areas of law and experience of working in a public sector employer is desirable but not essential. We offer a generous annual leave entitlement, local government pension scheme, flexible working arrangements and a work environment which gives you the chance to use and develop your skills within a forward-thinking service.

This is an opportunity to work in an exciting and forward thinking local authority as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary legal department during the implementation of change and improvement plans following the recent Best Value report on the Council. The work will be fast paced and highly varied in nature. This post presents an attractive and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual to bring their enthusiasm to the team and to build on their experience.

Please note that in accordance with the Council’s policy, employees who are in a formal redeployment situation will be considered in the first instance for all vacancies.
