Legal and Democratic Services Manager
Reference HR -0018-21
Salary £52,953 to £57,090 per annum
Closing date Thursday 29th April
West Lancashire has a diverse economy with market towns, small villages and thriving commercial areas nestled alongside rural countryside. The Borough offers a wide contrast between open farmland and small picturesque villages together with the larger vibrant market towns of Burscough and Ormskirk. Our largest town Skelmersdale is a hive of urban activity with a number of thriving employment estates and busy shopping centres and exciting plans for the Town Centre.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and driven individual to join the Council to lead our Legal and Democratic Services teams.
Reporting to the Council’s Head of Corporate and Customer Services, you will work at a senior level within the organisation responsible for leading Legal Services, Member Services and Elections teams.
You will act as the Council’s chief legal officer and statutory monitoring officer, providing an opportunity to work at a strategic level with the Council’s Corporate Management Team, senior managers and elected members.
We are seeking appropriately qualified candidates with relevant management experience and an excellent knowledge of local government law and governance. You will be politically aware, capable of quickly establishing credibility with members and have an ability to motivate others. You will have the skills and experience to lead “enabling” services confident in their ability to provide business focused advice and practical support to help the Council achieve its corporate priorities and ambitions for the Borough whilst maintaining and championing the principles of good governance and decision making.
