Cheshire East is an amazing place to live, work, visit and invest. We are proud to be one of the biggest employers in the area, employing around 4000 staff based in offices and other workplaces across the Borough. As a unitary council, we provide many different services and we offer a wide range of opportunities to job applicants from all backgrounds, ages, skills and interests. Our aim is to have a diverse workforce that understands and represents the communities they serve.

We work hard to deliver on our promise to Put Residents First by asking our staff to live our values which we believe underpin our success. To us ‘Putting Residents First’ is about really listening and understanding what residents and businesses need and responding appropriately to provide the best possible Service.

If you would like to be part of our team and want to contribute to our ongoing success, have the flexibility and drive to enable us to innovate and are willing to work as part of a team, we would like to hear from you for our current vacancy.

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive.   The role provides a range of legal support conducting prosecutions and civil litigation, licensing, advising on regulatory functions, trading standards, environmental health and education offences; it supports the senior lawyer in their role. This post involves advocacy in the Magistrates’ and County courts, including contested hearings so experience of advocacy is essential.

You will have good interpersonal skills, be able to prioritise your own workload and work to tight court deadlines. You will have good communication and presentation skills, good customer care skills and good analytical and problem-solving skills. You must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible, enthusiastic and committed.

You’ll be skilled at drafting legal documentation, providing concise and clear advice, and carrying out legal research and analysis. Well-organised and adaptable, you may from time to time be asked to take on challenges not currently within your field of expertise.

Experience gained in a Local Authority setting would assist, as would understanding of local government and administrative law, and an appreciation of the challenges facing local authorities is key to the role. You will ideally have experience of attending committees and be able to attend occasional evening meetings.
