Job Title: Litigation Lawyer
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Salary: £40,728 – £47,294 (Grade 11)

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive.   The role provides a range of legal support conducting prosecutions and civil litigation, licensing, advising on regulatory functions, trading standards, environmental health and education offences and will mentor and supervise more junior colleagues.  This post involves advocacy in the Magistrates’ and County courts, including contested hearings so experience of advocacy is essential.

You will have good interpersonal skills, be able to prioritise your own workload and work to tight court deadlines. You will have good communication and presentation skills, good customer care skills and good analytical and problem solving skills. You must be able to work as part of a team and be flexible, enthusiastic and committed.

You’ll be skilled at drafting legal documentation, providing concise and clear advice, and carrying out legal research and analysis. Well-organised and adaptable, you may from time to time be asked to take on challenges which stretch your field of expertise.

Experience gained in a Local Authority setting would assist, as would understanding of local government and administrative law, and an appreciation of the challenges facing local authorities is key to the role. You will ideally have experience of attending committees and be able to attend occasional evening meetings.
