Planning & Highways Lawyer

Role: Planning & Highways Lawyer
Salary: £37,890 to £43,857
Working Pattern: Full Time (Part Time considered)
Location: Town Hall, Stockport (mix of remote working available if desired)
Closing Date: 30th May 2021
Your Role
This is an exciting opportunity to handle an interesting and varied workload and provide advice and support to the Council’s planning and highways officers, to Councillors and the public.   You will be asked to attend Court to represent the Council on prosecutions, to assist on Planning Inquiries and Judicial Reviews, to draft summonses, legal orders, instructions to Counsel, Agreements and enforcement notices and generally represent the interests of a local authority client.
You will work with and support the Head of the Planning & Highways Team in the delivery of the above services and the development of the team, including trainee solicitors and paralegals.
About You
You are a qualified Solicitor/Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with at least 18 months to 2 years post qualification experience.  You will bring plenty of in depth knowledge of the whole spectrum of Planning and Highways law and practice.  Ideally, you will have experience of local government law and procedures, but this is not essential. Your relevant experience in these areas will enable you to advise and communicate with in-house clients, external partners and colleagues. You will have an eye for detail and good organisational skills, which will enable you to carry a substantial workload.
Flexible and innovative in your approach, you will help us to positively develop new areas of practice.
You will be able to work on your own initiative with a minimum of supervision and mentor less experienced colleagues.
Demonstrating your exceptional communication skills and pragmatism, you will give practical, clear and accurate legal advice to Councillors and to a range of Council officers, including the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of Service.
