The Role
We are looking for a high calibre litigator to join our small but busy legal team. This post offers the opportunity for a lawyer either looking for the opportunity to gain experience as a middle manager, whilst still carrying a complex case and legal advice workload, or equally one already in this position looking to work in a forward thinking local authority.
Reporting to and working closely with the Council’s Borough Solicitor, you will lead on the legal issues surrounding the very varied litigation and potential challenges which may arise from the Council’s services, and carry out advocacy in the range of court, inquiry and tribunal venues which affect the Council. You will be a highly accomplished and robust litigator, with a positive attitude and a practical and resilient approach to legal work.
You will deal with ombudsman complaints, data protection and freedom of Information requests, and be capable of providing advice and assistance arising out of all public law and service matters. You will also manage a small team of officers working in these areas.
About You
We seek candidates with substantial PQE or equivalent. This job is based in Ashton-under-Lyne, which is 10 minutes by train from central Manchester, and the Council operates a flexible working policy.
