Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for commercial lawyer to join the Legal Governance and Democratic Services team as Senior Lawyer – Commercial.

The Council’s Commercial lawyers support the Council with many of its functions.  The Council has a busy procurement service that benefits from regular legal support from the Commercial lawyers in drafting terms and conditions, contracts and advising on procurement law.  All Services  require support when providing grants to ensure appropriate security and obligations are in place to deliver the aim of those grants.   The Council is seeking someone with strong commercial skills and business acumen.

The Role

As a Senior Lawyer you will handle your own caseload of commercial matters with support of more junior lawyers and legal officers; you will also oversee the day-to-day management and supervision of the wider team; assist the wider management team in ensuring the provision of the most appropriate and cost-effective method of meeting the Council’s requirements for legal services. This will include contributing to the management of the wider Legal Services and supporting the organisation in achieving a high standard of corporate governance.
