We Are St Helens Borough Council

Located in the heart of the north-west close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.

Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

St Helens Borough Council is inviting applications for full time, permanent litigation and licensing solicitor/lawyer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established legal team and provide key support to our client departments and Elected Members.

We are a busy, friendly and well supported legal team situated in the Merseyside area with good transport links to surrounding areas. We have embraced new ways of working and the role will predominantly feature hybrid working, offering a level of flexibility of office/home working, allowing staff to take control of their work/life balance.

The role will cover a wide and varied case load of licensing and litigation matters, including licensing (both taxis and Licensing Act 2003), employment, civil and criminal litigation and general advice.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of cases and advising on all aspects of law relevant to licensing, employment and litigation including advising Elected Members of the Licensing Committee and Sub-Committee and advocacy in the Employment Tribunal, Magistrates’ and County Court.

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Chartered Legal Executives with experience of advising client departments and Elected Members in relation to licensing, employment and/or litigation. Whether you are newly qualified or have significant experience in these areas from a career in the public or private sector, we are interested to hear from you.
