Salary £32,878 – £35,934 p a

South Lakeland District Council is seeking to recruit a solicitor within the Legal Services Team. The
post is based at the Council’s head offices in Kendal.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing planning advice, drafting contracts, s106
agreements, preparing for hearings and Inquires and Planning enforcement work. Plus providing other
general advice to client services as required.
Other duties will include dealing with a range of matters including providing advice and drafting. You
will attend Council committees and working groups as required providing advice to officers and elected
members. You will also demonstrate the ability to work well as an individual and as a member of our
team.
The successful candidate will need to possess a relevant degree and a current practising certificate.
Ideally candidates will have a demonstrable planning law background within either a private practice or
a local authority setting. Consideration maybe given to newly qualified solicitors with relevant
experience of planning law from any setting provided that they can demonstrate a strong work ethic, a
professional attitude, the ability to work under pressure and a desire to work in local authority. The
successful candidate will also possess good IT literacy skills and have the ability to use electronic
publications for the purpose of legal work and research.
